International Development Academy Update

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Here are some updates on IDA and the global reopening that is currently under way. Some reasons to be optimistic in these challenging times.

Global re-opening:

The return of the Bundesliga on May 16 has been a sight for sore eyes as the world gets to see top class football games again, even if behind closed doors. Apart from the canned audience noise, the games have been exciting and the resumption has not had any major obstacles so far. The other major Leagues around the world are now putting their own plans in place with the English Premier League, Serie A, LaLiga and the MLS all looking at a mid-June return to play.

Professional European Football starting dates:

  • Bundesliga returned on May 16

  • La Liga set to return on June 11

  • English Premier League set to return on June 17

  • Serie A set to return on on June 20

IDA Spain:

Housed in the beautiful campus at Mas Camareña, situated 15 minutes from the center of Valencia, the IDA Spain residential Academy is perfectly situated to provide a safe, comfortable and spacious setting for our players. As we consider what the “nueva normalidad” will look like, having a location with state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional amenities will allow IDA players to train in a professional setting and be able to relax all within the campus setting. Mas Camareña will follow all the necessary guidelines laid down by the Spanish government as it pertains to health and safety, and the players will be in a safe and controlled environment that will allow for plenty of checks and balances to ensure that everyone is safe and well. Spain will open its doors to outside travelers on July 1 and Valencia will be in phase 4 of its reopening plan by mid-July so everything will be moving towards a successful start to the IDA season on Aug 1.

Covid-19 Disclaimer:

Whilst we are still facing a lot more questions than answers as it relates to our “new normal”, we all continue to look ahead with optimism and a desire to get back into the world in a meaningful way. Being respectful and mindful of all health and safety guidelines as it relates to Covid-19 and phased reopening will be of paramount important. The need for patience, understanding and flexibility will be even more important as we move out of lockdown, but the passion for soccer and the desire to continue to get better will always be there. And that is why we are offering worry-free options to give the most determined student-athletes the opportunity to find the right soccer and educational pathway.
