Over the last few weeks, IDA Valencia student Jeremy De Leon had the opportunity to attend Club Atlético de Madrid and compete at the professional level. Having the chance to train with the Liga Youth Academy was an excellent way for Jeremy to showcase his skills.
Jeremy experienced a training week at Atlético Madrid from April 19th to April 23rd.
The first 3 days he trained with Atletico de Madrid B, playing at Liga Nacional (2nd Division U19's) and then he tested his worth with the Atletico de Madrid A, playing at Division de Honor (1st division U19's). A few of the players he trained with are currently rostered with the Spanish Youth National Team.
Not only did he lodged for the week at the Atletico Madrid campus, but he also trained at the Wanda Sports Complex, where world-class footballers like Oblak, Felix, Correa and Suarez train every day. Watching them in a full training session was really inspirational for Jeremy, and made him really think about what is needed to take his game to the next level.
“The level of competition was very high, the facilities were fantastic, and the way we were treated was as if we were professional players” Jeremy explained. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in Madrid and hopes to have more player experiences similar in the near future.
Thanks to Experience Soccer Spain and Alberto Ruiz for helping us making it happen.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Jeremy joined IDA Valencia about 8 months prior to attending Atlético in Madrid. He is currently about to finish up his 11th grade year at the academy.
De Leon’s family is moving out to Spain to watch him excel both on and off the soccer field.
Jeremy is very grateful for his time at IDA thus far. He described that the coaches and program directors preach about different values that help the students grow as people.
Jeremy said that he has already learned so much from everyone at IDA after only being there for 8 months. His passion for the game will surely grant him plenty of success as an accomplished player in the coming years.
Other players are experiencing similar opportunities. Sebastian Pandura is trying out next week with CF Fuenlabrada U23's, also in Madrid. CF Fuenlabrada is in the Spanish 2nd division, and the club where El Niño Torres started his career!
